The Joslyn Art Museum is a space where modernity and sophistication meet! This beloved Omaha institution takes some of the greatest artistic masterpieces and surrounds them with stunning architecture to create an experience unlike any other. As an Omaha wedding photographer, I am lucky enough to go all across town working at the most coveted wedding locations. Here is what you can expect when you book a Joslyn Art Museum wedding

About The Joslyn Art Museum Wedding Venue

2200 Dodge Street, Omaha, Nebraska 68102

The story of the Joslyn Art Museum starts in the Roaring Twenties when Sarah Joslyn donated a vast amount of money to create an arts center for the city of Omaha. She had wanted a way to honor her late husband, George, and she knew a cultural celebration would be a fitting tribute. The center opened its doors on November 29, 1931, with over 25,000 people present. As Sarah looked upon the vast crowd, she stated, “If there is any good in it, let it go on and on.” Her wish was granted, and the Joslyn Art Museum remains a popular attraction for Omaha residents and tourists alike.

Since the beginning, this has been a center dedicated to continual renewal. The building offers a mixture of permanent pieces and rotating exhibits, ensuring a brand new experience every time you visit. As you walk through the impressive hallways, you will find some of the biggest artists of all time, including Matisse, Monet, and Degas. The outside features a sculpture garden with unique backdrops you simply cannot find anywhere else. With such a rich history and breathtaking locations, the Joslyn is the ideal spot for iconic couples ready to throw a party their guests will never forget!

Details of the Grounds

With the Joslyn, your rental will start in the late afternoon once the museum shuts down for the day. When you arrive at the grounds, you and your wedding party will be taken to one of several dressing areas. You can spend a little time toasting with your wedding party with some champagne before it’s time to walk down the aisle.

Once it’s time for your ceremony, you are going to have a number of options to choose from. If you would prefer a sun-soaked space, the Entry Atrium is for you! This area is made up of two levels with a winding staircase ideal for a grand and dramatic entrance. With the floor-to-ceiling windows, your photos are going to have plenty of natural light! You will be able to host up to 200 guests here.

Another option is the Cafe Atrium, where you will be able to host up to 300 guests. This area features Georgia Pink marble walls and soaring glass ceilings, ideal for your portraits.

If you would like something a little more intimate yet no less impressive, The Fountain Court is your spot! This space feels as though it was plucked straight off the Mediterranean coast, offering high ceilings and decorative metalwork. The namesake fountain is at the center of the room, giving you a relaxing ambiance. This area is able to hold up to 175 guests.

If you would prefer an outdoor wedding, you will be able to host your ceremony out in the Sculpture Garden. This area is sunny and sophisticated with an artist-designed reflecting pool that runs alongside the exterior of the building. Ornamental grasses and meadow flowers will give you a lush backdrop as you exchange your vows while surrounded by up to 400 guests.

Cocktail Hour And Wedding Receptions At The Joslyn Art Museum

If you plan on hosting a cocktail hour, I would recommend using the Sculpture Garden. Your guests are going to have an unforgettable time enjoying drinks while touring modern art sculptures. If you would prefer something inside, the Entry Atrium will work well!

Once it’s time for your reception, you will be able to celebrate in any of the ceremony spaces. With flexible floor plans and unbelievable backdrops, you will easily be able to find the spot that perfectly aligns with your vision!

Photography Opportunities

As a photographer, I am completely in love with all the photo opportunities this location offers. As you get ready with your wedding party, you will be able to use the dressing suites and the surrounding hallways for some candid pics.  First look portraits can take on one of the stairways. This is going to give you the most wonderfully dramatic reveal as you meet your spouse-to-be ahead of your ceremony! From there, you can use the exterior of the building, including the Sculpture Garden, for posed pictures. I would also recommend using the Sculpture Garden for large group photos. It’s the best place to get all that gorgeous sunlight while celebrating with your favorite people!

Wedding Details

The Joslyn Art Museum knows how to throw a legendary party! Right from the beginning, you will be paired with their events team, who will help you pick your wedding location so you can have the space that perfectly suits you. They will also work with you on the room layouts. The museum has a list of approved vendors who will take care of all the details, such as catering and drinks. If you do want to bring in your own vendor, you can let the venue know ahead of time so they can approve them for your day. The staff will be there for your wedding and will do whatever they can to keep things running smoothly. If you would like, the museum allows you to add art viewings to your event rental, giving you the ideal cocktail hour event!
